MU: Dark Epoch is a modern take on the classic MU Online formula: fast combat, flashy wings, endless loot and heavy grinding, playable on both mobile and PC. It launched on Steam on 16 October 2025, published by 37GAMES. It brings back the iconic classes along with auto-combat, AFK levelling and an open player auction house.

The decision that matters most comes before you even enter the game. There's currently no way to change your class after creating a character, so this guide compares the core classes and the builds that work.

The Core Classes at a Glance

Class Role Difficulty Best for
Dark Knight Melee bruiser / burst Easy Solo players, PvP
Dark Wizard Ranged magic damage, AoE Medium Fast farming, bossing
Fairy Elf Ranged physical DPS or support Medium Mobility, party support

Dark Knight: The Safe, Strong Pick

The Dark Knight is the close-range fighter: high stamina, strong sword skills and the most forgiving survivability of the three. It's the class we'd recommend to most new players.

Two build directions dominate:

  • STR build: high burst damage for clearing mobs and winning short PvP fights.
  • ENE build: lower raw output but strong lifesteal. You trade speed for staying power, which makes solo bossing and long fights much easier.

Pick it if: you want the smoothest levelling, mostly play solo, or plan to take PvP in Roland City seriously.

Dark Wizard: Maximum Area Damage

The Dark Wizard is a ranged spellcaster with the best area damage in the game, plus buffs and debuffs that control fights. Packs of monsters melt, and that matters in a game built around farming.

The downside is low defence. Wizards must avoid getting surrounded, especially early when gear is thin. Auto-combat helps, but a Wizard still benefits more than other classes from manual positioning in harder content.

Pick it if: you want the fastest farming speed and enjoy watching screens full of monsters disappear, and you're willing to spend more on survivability.

Fairy Elf: Flexible and Mobile

The Fairy Elf uses bows and crossbows and comes in two very different flavours:

  • AGI build: a high-mobility ranged damage dealer that kites enemies and stays safe.
  • ENE build: a support Elf focused on buffs and healing, which makes the whole party stronger.

Support Elves are always welcome in organised groups and guild content. Solo levelling as a pure support build is slower, though, so many players level as AGI first.

Pick it if: you like ranged play with lots of movement, or want to be the player every guild invites.

What About New Classes?

Updates since launch have expanded the roster and progression. A Dark Lord class has been added, and class-change tiers have kept growing. New classes are often tempting, but they usually arrive with event-boosted competition and fewer community guides. For a first character, one of the three core classes is the easier path.

Systems Every New Player Should Use

  • AFK levelling: the game keeps earning experience and loot while you're away. Before logging off, park your character in the best zone you can survive.
  • Daily, weekly and monthly quests: daily tasks are quick, while weekly and monthly objectives pay far more. Plan around them.
  • Dungeons with a party: group content like Blood Castle gives better rewards and is much faster with a balanced team.
  • The auction house: trading is open, so sell gear you won't use instead of dismantling everything. Early on, gold from smart sales often matters more than a single upgrade.
  • Costumes: the dynamic costume system is mostly cosmetic. Don't spend scarce resources here before your core gear is set.

Our Recommendation

  • First character, mostly solo: Dark Knight (STR)
  • Fast farming and bossing: Dark Wizard
  • Group-focused player: Fairy Elf (ENE support)

Whatever you pick, commit to one build and follow it. Splitting stat points across two directions is the most common mistake new MU players make, and it leaves you weak at everything.
